Too close to home...

This image could be new made to look old, it could be just after WWI. And to think that little boy would grow up to face the horror of war once again.
All I know is that it hit me where it hurts, and I had to fight back tears at work.

I never met you, grandfather. You were killed during WWII fighting somewhere on the Eastern Front protecting your home, your family, my grandmother, and my father.
And you are not home, buried in an unknown location.
People assume you were fighting on the wrong side. You were fighting for your life as far as you knew. Being drafted, you had no choice.
I never met you Opa, but I miss you and think of you every single day.
Ever since I can remember.
I love you. Give grandma a kiss for me.

Your granddaughter
